Frequently Asked Questions about the McFLOW water softener
Below you will find answers to frequently asked questions about the McFLOW water conditioner. We hope this information helps you make an informed decision.
Effectiveness of McFLOW
How effective is the McFLOW water conditioner?
The effectiveness of McFLOW can vary depending on several factors such as water hardness, mineral composition, water pressure, and installation conditions. In general, most users experience a noticeable reduction in limescale buildup. Some users report excellent results, with reductions of up to 90%, while others see more moderate improvements of around 30–40%.
Why are the results not always the same?
As mentioned above, the performance of McFLOW depends on several factors. Water hardness plays an important role. The harder the water, the more minerals are present, and the more challenging it becomes to prevent limescale buildup. The composition of the minerals also matters. In addition, water pressure and installation conditions can influence performance.
Is McFLOW a 100% solution against limescale?
Although McFLOW can significantly reduce limescale buildup, we cannot guarantee a 100% elimination. McFLOW is designed as a cost-effective solution that provides significant benefits relative to its price. It is not intended to replace larger and more complex water treatment systems that may achieve a higher level of scale removal.
Differences Between McFLOW and McFLOW Pro
What is the difference between McFLOW and McFLOW Pro, and which one do I need?
McFLOW and McFLOW Pro are both magnetic water treatment systems designed to reduce limescale. The main difference lies in the strength and capacity of the magnets.
McFLOW
This model is suitable for most households and works well with average water consumption.
McFLOW Pro
This model is larger and more powerful, offering a higher treatment capacity. It is suitable for households with higher water usage, larger pipes, or more complex plumbing systems. Examples include large families, homes with multiple bathrooms, or small commercial properties.
In most situations, the standard McFLOW model is sufficient. However, in some cases you may benefit from installing two McFLOW units or choosing one McFLOW Pro.
Note: For optimal results we recommend installing a second McFLOW unit after the boiler. Electromagnetic radiation inside boilers can sometimes reduce the effectiveness of magnetic water treatment.
General Questions
What is the difference between McFLOW and a traditional salt-based water softener?
Traditional water softeners use salt to remove calcium and magnesium from the water through an ion exchange process. McFLOW works differently. It uses magnetic fields to influence the structure of minerals in the water, helping to prevent them from forming limescale deposits. McFLOW does not use salt and does not produce wastewater.
Is McFLOW suitable for all types of water?
McFLOW works with most types of water, including tap water and groundwater.
Can I install McFLOW myself or do I need a plumber?
McFLOW is designed for easy installation and requires no special tools or plumbing expertise. Most people can install it themselves. A clear installation manual is included.
What is the warranty period for McFLOW?
The magnet used in McFLOW is designed to last a lifetime. We therefore provide a 20-year warranty on the system. The magnetic strength is expected to decrease by no more than 1% per 100 years.
Where can I buy McFLOW?
You can order McFLOW easily and securely online through our webshop at www.mymcflow.com. In addition, some physical retail locations may also offer McFLOW products.
What if I am not satisfied with McFLOW?
We are confident in the performance of McFLOW. However, if you are not satisfied, you may return the product within 100 days for a full refund.
Effectiveness and Science
Are there scientific studies supporting magnetic water treatment?
Various scientific studies have examined the effects of magnetic water treatment. The results are mixed, but there is growing evidence that magnetic fields can influence the behavior of minerals in water and may help reduce limescale formation. We refer to several relevant studies on our website.
How long does it take to see results after installing McFLOW?
Most users begin to notice improvements within a few days to eight weeks. It may take some time for existing limescale deposits to gradually break down.
Can McFLOW remove existing limescale?
McFLOW can help reduce and gradually break down existing limescale deposits. Because the mineral structure changes, new minerals are less likely to adhere to surfaces, and existing scale may slowly dissolve over time. As a result, cleaning can become easier.
What happens to the minerals in the water?
The minerals remain present in the water, but their structure may change. This can reduce their ability to stick to surfaces and form limescale. Importantly, the natural minerals remain in the drinking water.
Does McFLOW affect the pH level of the water?
McFLOW does not significantly affect the pH value of the water, although a very small increase may occur.
Health and Environment
Is magnetically treated water safe to drink?
Yes. Water that has been treated magnetically is safe to drink. There are no known health risks associated with magnetic water treatment systems.
Are there disadvantages to using magnetic water treatment?
There are currently no known disadvantages associated with systems such as McFLOW.
Is McFLOW environmentally friendly?
Yes. McFLOW is an environmentally friendly solution because it uses no chemicals, electricity, or salt and does not produce wastewater. The system also has no moving or fragile parts.
Specific Applications
Is McFLOW suitable for my type of water pipe?
McFLOW is suitable for most water pipes with diameters between 10 mm and 50 mm, including copper, PVC, and flexible hoses. All non-magnetic pipes are compatible.
Can I use McFLOW together with other water treatment systems?
Yes. In most cases McFLOW can be used alongside other systems such as water filters.
What effect does McFLOW have on my washing machine and dishwasher?
By reducing limescale buildup, McFLOW may help appliances such as washing machines and dishwashers operate more efficiently and maintain performance for longer.
Can McFLOW help with rust in pipes?
McFLOW is primarily designed to reduce limescale buildup. While some users report less rust buildup, it is not intended as a rust treatment solution.
Installation and Use
Where should I install McFLOW?
McFLOW should be installed as close as possible to the water meter or main water inlet, on a straight section of pipe where there is enough space for the unit. Avoid locations close to strong magnetic fields or electrical wiring.
Can I install McFLOW on a pipe that already has limescale buildup?
Yes, although cleaning the pipe beforehand may improve effectiveness. McFLOW can help reduce further buildup and may gradually break down existing deposits.
Do I need to ground McFLOW?
No, grounding is not required.
Can McFLOW be used with a hydrofor pump?
Yes, McFLOW is compatible with hydrofor pump systems.
Maintenance and Durability
How long does McFLOW last?
McFLOW has a very long lifespan and can function for many decades. In fact, the steel magnet dergades around 2% per 100 years.
Is maintenance required?
No maintenance is required. You do not need to add salt or replace filters.
Can I take McFLOW with me if I move?
Yes. McFLOW can easily be removed and installed again in a new home.
Health and Safety
Does McFLOW affect the taste of water?
No. McFLOW does not change the taste of the water.
Can I use McFLOW if I have a pacemaker?
Although no risks are known, it is advisable to consult your doctor before installing McFLOW if you use a pacemaker.
Is McFLOW safe for pets?
Yes. Magnetically treated water is safe for animals.
Other Uses
Can McFLOW be used for pools or ponds?
Yes. McFLOW can also be used in swimming pools or ponds to help reduce limescale buildup and may contribute to lower use of pool chemicals.
